Hi all new here, just had a question about my shubunkins behavior. Got 4 last year sometime around August and have since lost one after a month or so, but also have had to keep one in a separate tank (Conan) from the remaining two (Frenchie and LaForge). Conan was being picked on or bullied by the others as he was the smallest and would often be pushed away into a corner by the others or chased until he no longer had any energy and they merely butted into him, obviously i found this quite disturbing and so separated him from the others and all was well for a while. Now LaForge is showing similar behaviour towards Frenchie, 99% of the time theyre okay, except when being fed he chases her away from him. But occasionally i will find him nudging and chasing Frenchie for no obvious reason, again until she no longer had any energy was merely being bumped against the side of the tank, kind of laying lifelessly apart from breathing. Does anybody know what could be causing this? aren't goldfish meant to be relatively peaceful fish?? i thought it may be stress from things like water conditions or perhaps the tank size, or even a lack of cover like plants and hiding places. Though i have tried to solve most of these the behaviour still persists .. and i currently do not have the money to buy more plants.

Just a bit of background info in case there's something im fundamentally doing wrong. Conan is about 4" long and is alone in a 24" by 12" by 12" tank, with a relatively large Vallisneria, water changes every 6-7 days (although i admit i have stretched that to 9 days once or twice in the past). Frenchie and LaForge are about 5" long and are in a 36" by 12" by 15" with a few pieces of large wood (for the tank anyway) and weedy Vallisneria (they keep uprooting and being general nuisances) again similar water change schedule.

I most definitely am wanting more plants in there especially in Conans tank as he is perfectly harmless and docile, but am not sure whether it would be a help or hindrance in the larger tank. Any help anybody could give would be greatly appreciated.
